The Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men was set up by the European Commission on 9 December 1981 to:
Advise the Commission on the formulation and implementation of its policy to promote women’s employment and equal treatment and ensure the continuous exchange of information on experience gained and measures undertaken in the Community in the fields in question.
It aimed to enable information sharing across nations, as well as reporting to and offering opinion to the European Commission on the development of policy. It membership included bodies within Member States with responsibility for promoting equality of opportunity.
Baronness Betty Lockwood, previously chair of the EOC (Great Britain) was acted as chair of the European Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in 1982–83.
